Matt Van Der Tuyn is the manager of design and strategy at the Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Innovation. Matt practices an empathic design approach, viewing current and potential users of products, information, environments, and services as the experts of their own experience. Utilizing this philosophy, Matt's design process begins with contextual research to gain a deep understanding of the ways in which people view and interact with the world around them.
Prior to joining the Center, Matt worked with a number of for-profit and non-profit organizations in and around the Philadelphia area where he facilitated collaborative design projects engaging stakeholders around topics like independent living for the disabled, community capacity building and engagement, and re-thinking the public library with The Free Library of Philadelphia.
Matt received his bachelor’s degree in graphic design from The College of New Jersey and his master’s degree in industrial design from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
