Sharath Guntuku is a research scientist at the Penn Medicine Center for Digital Health. His research aims to leverage large-scale social media image and text data to model social health outcomes and psychological traits. He uses machine learning, statistical analysis, natural language processing, and computer vision to answer questions pertaining to health, psychology and social science in individuals and communities.
Sharath also works closely with the World Well Being Project at the Positive Psychology Center and the Penn Research in Machine Learning. His work has been covered by the American Psychological Association, Canadian Broadcasting Company, US News and other venues.
Prior to joining the team, Sharath completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania and earned his PhD from the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He also worked on building deep learning framework for facial action unit recognition while interning at Panasonic R&D. He received his undergraduate degree from BITS-Pilani, India in Computer Science.
